Victory Lane: Double Win Night for Sova in Week Four

The Victory Lane Karting Adult Winter League competitors returned to action on February 1st, reaching the midway point of the season with Round Four at the North Carolina indoor facility. Walt Sova was victorious in both Lightweight and Heavyweight class, while Branson McCannon extended his Novice win streak to three.

With the championship leader and week three winner absent from competition, the battle for Lightweight honors was certainly up for grabs when the action got underway at VLK. Setting the stage for what was ultimately a highly successful night of racing, Sova captured the pole position via the fastest time in qualifying. While former Victory Lane Karting champions Fred Ogrim, Michael Ibach both challenged for the win, it was not to be. Sova, turning the fastest lap of the race, scored his first Lightweight class win, crossing the stripe in front of Ogrim and Ibach. Cody Robnett and DJ Bloomfield completed the top-five, while Paul Shelton took home the Hard Charge bonus points with an eighth place finish.

Entering and exiting qualifying, Robnett was the driver everyone was focused on Heavyweight class in week four. While reigning two-time race winner posted the fastest time earning the pole position, his run up front was not to last. Sova, building on his earlier race win, used the fastest lap of the race to find a way past Robnett, earning his second win of the night and first Heavweight win of 2010. Behind the duo, Ibach joined in the podium celebrations, by leading Ogrim and Frank Parrish, earning the Hard Charger award, to the checkered flag.

As those on hand have come to expect, the fight for the Novice class win again featured McCannon and 'Crash' going head-to-head. For a third consecutive week, the McCannon set the fastest race lap en route to converting the pole position into the win. 'Max' completed the top-three, leading 'D.Gould' and 'J.Cunningham' to the checkered flag.

With the Victory Lane Karting Adult Winter League reaching the halfway mark, the title chases are starting to take shape. Jordan Pembleton and Cody Robnett are tied for the Lightweight class lead, with Sova only 15 points back. Robnett holds a 45-point advantage in the Heavyweight class over the duo of Sova and Ibach. 'Crash' is just two points in front of McCannon in the Novice class. The eight-week championship resumes on February 8th, with Round Five at the Charlotte, N.C., track.
