Lehigh Valley GP: Championship Leaders On Top in Round Three

The Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult Spring League entered the closing stages recently, with Round Three taking place at the well-liked eastern Pennsylvania indoor karting facility. Defending series champion Brandon Flyte extended his advantage in Group A at the end of the night's activities, while Sean Barbour led the Group B contingent for a third consecutive week.

As is the case at each Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult League event, the on-track action commenced via five-minute qualifying session for both groups. Setting the stage for what would be another race-winning run behind the wheel, Flyte posted the fastest time in Group A, earning both the pole position and the three bonus points. Posting the second and third fastest times in the session, Jason Frakenfield and Brad Carosella also added to their championship tallies. In Group B, Steven Wu made his presence felt, turning the fastest time, ensuring a P1 starting position. Barbour and Dan Deithorn were second and third quickest in the pre-race run.

When the Group A racers returned to the driver's seat a short time later for the nightly races all eyes were on Flyte. The defending track champion did not disappoint, showing good speed - fastest race lap 30.980 - and skill in the opening 32-lap affair en route to the win over Justin Schaffer and Peter Baran. While the follow-up 40-lap affair featured plenty more action, in the end Flyte once again emerged victorious, ahead of current championship runner-up Baron and Kevin Carney.

As expected, the battle for top honors in the two Group B races was a wide-open affair. Turning the fastest lap of the race (32.074), Barbour was able to work his way to the front in the 32-lap opening race, adding another victory to his 2010 resume. Not far behind, fellow title contender Justin Wilson and Chris Wuestefeld completed the top-three. Ensuring the championship fight will come down to the final round, Wu took home top honors in race two of the night, edging Barbour and Wilson to the stripe.

The 2010 Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult Spring League concludes on March 31st, with Round Four at the Allentown, Pa., indoor karting facility. Flyte enters the season-finale with a significant lead in Group A (47-37) over Baran, while Barbour retains a slim advantage in Group B (39-34) ahead of Wu.
