Lehigh Valley GP: Flyte and Barbour Clinch Spring League Titles

The Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult Spring League concluded recently at the well-liked eastern Pennsylvania indoor karting facility with special season-finale endurance race. While Peter Baran and Pete Sleeman won the 90-minute race, Brandon Flyte did enough to secure a second consecutive Group A title. A podium finish in the combined group finale ensured Sean Barbour ended the season as the Group B champion.

With numerous positions still be decided in both the Group A and Group B championship chases, week four of the Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult Spring League commenced with the tradition qualifying runs for both groups. Earning valuable bonus points, Flyte led the way in Group A, edging Jason Frakenfield and Justin Schaffer on the timecharts. In Group B, it was Jim Wilson who led the way, bettering the best times set by Barber and Dan Deithorn.

Adding some drama and entertainment to the Spring League season-finale, the format changed after qualifying. Rather than running the traditional 30+ lap feature races for both groups, the field was combined for a 90-minute endurance. Featuring two-driver teams, the fastest drivers from qualifying were paired with those posting slower times. As expected, this made for some highly entertaining racing once the green flag waved. By the 30-minute mark, the field had broken into three pairs of karts battling for position. Up front, the duo of Baran and Sleeman were dicing back and forth with Flyte and Steven Wu for the lead. Only a few kart lengths back, Barber and Kevin Carney were routinely trading places with the duo of Schaffer and Deithorn. Last, but not least, Wilson and guest driver Mike McCreary battled nose-to-tail with Frankfield and Chris Wuestefeld. In the end, Baran/Sleeman scored the 90-minute enduro win over Flyte/Wu. With that result, Flyte clinched the Group A title over Baran. Barbour/Carney joined in the season-finale podium celebrations, giving Barbour the Group B crown over Wu. Finishing fourth in week four were Shaffer/Deithorn, only a short distance ahead of Wilson/McCreary.

The Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Adult competitors will now enjoy a short break, before the Summer League season gets underway at the Allentown, Pa., indoor karting facility.
